Portola offensive lineman Samuel Gatta, who was playing for the South, had quite a cheering section. Coach Peter Abe said 46 players and school supporters were on hand to see the first Portola player in the all-star game. Abe said the program has been inviting players to the game since starting up.
The South defeated the North 27-13.
Gatta, a first team All-Pacific Coast League player, helped the Bulldogs win their first league title.
Coach Abe said that the 6-2, 270-pound Gatta has been offered a spot to play at Jamestown University in North Dakota and will be taking a visit there next week.
