Woodbridge High’s boys water polo team won its second consecutive Pacific Coast League title and capped it with a 10-3 victory over Northwood in the regular season finale Wednesday at Woodbridge.

“I am very proud of this group of seniors who won our first league title last year and now have won back to back league championships,” said Woodbridge Coach Matt Campbell.

Woodbridge (19-8 overall) finished league play 10-0 and had already clinched the league title entering Wednesday’s match. The Warriors are expected to be a high seed in the CIF Division 2 playoffs beginning next week.

Woodbridge was No. 11 in this week’s CIF Division 1-2 poll. Beckman and Northwood are also expected to advance to the CIF playoffs. Beckman was ranked fourth in Division 3 this week and Northwood sixth.

In Wednesday’s match against Northwood, Woodbridge was led by Nik Mirkovic, who had four goals. Travis Wilder, a senior, added two goals for the Warriors.

“We jumped out to a good lead and held it throughout the game,” Campbell said. “I thought our defense was really the difference today. We were really focused and were able to hold Northwood scoreless for the first half.

“We finished the regular season in a strong note and hope that we can continue to carry that momentum into the playoffs which start next week.”
