Mitch Leigber, a running back/wide receiver and strong safety for the Laguna Hills football team, announced on Twitter Tuesday that he has received a scholarship offer from UNLV.

Leigber, a 6-1, 196 junior, has been getting lots of attention from NCAA Division 1 coaches, according to Hawks’ coach Mike Maceranka.

“Mitch has been offered by Colorado State, San Diego State, UNLV, San Jose State and Utah State, all Mountain West schools,” Maceranka said.

The PAC 12 schools who are interested are Washington, Utah, Washington State and Arizona, according to Maceranka.

“The PAC 12 schools are typically a bit slower to offer sophomores and I believe they will come soon,” Maceranka said. “He has great opportunities right now and he would be a great fit for all of them. The name of the game is improving yourself each day and putting your best on video. He is not a kid who is worried about how many offers he has, he just wants to play at the D1 level and receive a great education.

“He has an unofficial visit scheduled for next week to Colorado State and the University of Colorado. I will be bringing him and six other of my players to Colorado and Wyoming. CSU was the first to offer him and he is very interested in getting out there and seeing the campus and meeting all the coaches.”

Maceranka said Leigber has great options for the future.

“He is old school, he just wants his play to do the talking and opportunities will open up for him,” Maceranka said. “The options he has now are incredible and he would be happy attending all of them.”

Leigber played wide receiver, strong safety and running back and and was also a kick/punt returner last season and is expected to make big contributions his junior year.

“He led our team in rushing (five games at RB), receiving (five games at WR), and scoring,” Maceranka said. “On the defensive side he was tied for the lead in tackles and returned all kicks and punts for the team.”
