The OC Riptide, which competes in the California League, is playing its games this summer at the Great Park Baseball Complex in Irvine.

The league includes the San Luis Obisbo Blue, Santa Barbara Foresters, Arroyo Seco Saints, Conejo Oaks and the Ventura County Pirates.

The main goal of the California Collegiate League is for college baseball players to improve their games over the summer using wood bats and professional baseballs, according to David Lamm, vice president of baseball operations for the OC Riptide.

A number of professional scouts come out to the games to scout players and according to Lamm, eight former Riptide players were taken over the last three days of the Major League Baseball draft.

The season lasts through July and the OC Riptide plays on Sundays at noon and has weekday games at 6:30 p.m.

The team’s next game is Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. vs. the Santa Barbara Foresters.

More than half of the 2019 roster consists of players from Orange County who compete on teams such as Vanderbilt, Miami, Notre Dame, BYY and UNLV, according to Lamm.

Admission prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Children under 5 and seniors are admitted free of charge.
