University’s boys tennis team, coached by John Kessler, is having another remarkable season and is the top ranked team in CIF Division 1.

The Trojans are 6-0 in the Pacific Coast League and 13-0 overall.

“The boys have not lost a PCL match since April 6, 2006,” Kessler said. “Uni lost that match 9-9 on games to CdM.  The Trojan boys have won 124 straight PCL matches stretching over 13 years.

“What makes this streak incredible is the level of play and the quality of teams in the PCL.  Each year the PCL has anywhere from four to five teams in the OC Top Ten (by the Orange County Register) and three to five in the CIFSS Division 1 top 10.

“The fact that we haven’t lost a match to teams of this caliber and/or we have managed to maintain this level of play is incredible.”

Kessler said the team is led by senior Aditya Gupta who committed to University of Pennsylvania as a junior.

“With Adi gone often competing in high level tournaments the team has relied on the singles play of juniors Soomin Lee and Cameron Sepahi along with sophomore Rithvik Krishna.” Kessler said.

“Senior captain Michael Rudin has led the way in doubles along with Luis Moros and freshmen standout Conrad Brown. Brown has played both singles and doubles for the top ranked Trojans.

University did lose in the semifinal of the National All-American tournament to Torrey Pines high school in Newport Beach last week, Kessler added.

Pacific Coast League teams Northwood, Irvine, Beckman and Woodbridge are also ranked in the top 10 of Division 1.
