Estancia High School head baseball coach Nate Goellrich, who led the Eagles to two CIF championships, said Friday he has resigned as head coach.

In 2022, Estancia made history by winning its first CIF title defeating Anaheim 2-1 in 11 innings in the Division 6 championship game at Goodwin Field.

Then in 2025, the Eagles won another CIF title when the Eagles’ Jake Humphries blasted a bases-clearing walk off triple with no outs to lift Estancia to a 4-3 victory over Marshall in the Division 6 final, also at Goodwin Field.

Goellrich completed his second stint as Estancia coach with a five year record of 110-45. The Eagles qualified for the CIF playoffs all five seasons.

In 11 years overall as the head coach, Goellrich had a record of 196-121 and his teams qualified for the playoffs in nine of the 11 years.

“My plan was to only coach for a couple of years when I took the program back over in 2022,” Goellrich said. “The program was struggling on the field and had low participation numbers. The players and parents bought in right away and our success is a credit to them and all their hard work. I am very proud of the success we have had in the classroom. We have had a high GPA these past five years and {the team} was recognized as the CIF Team Academic winner this past year.

“It has been an amazing run, and I am so grateful for the players and parents over the past five years. Our program has helped turn around the athletic culture on our campus. It was not an easy decision, but it is time for me to take a step back and focus on my role as the athletic director. I am enjoying coaching my two kids in their sports and I will begin to pursue some professional development opportunities.”

Estancia also won the CIF SoCal Regional Championship in Division 5 in 2022 and was Orange Coast League champion in 2023.

Goellrich said he will continue as Estancia’s athletic director.

“I will still be working with the program, and I am looking forward to working with our next coach to keep the program moving in a positive direction,” Goellrich said.

Interviews for the new baseball coach will be Monday, he added.
