Orange County boys basketball highlights, final scores for Saturday, Nov. 29

FEAR THE HALO CLASSIC

CREAN LUTHERAN 62, ST. BERNARD 50: Crean Lutheran (4-1) captured a win Saturday. Hunter Caplan had 16 points, Chadrack Mpoyi 13 points and Caden Jones 12 points to lead the Saints.

FEAST WEEK

CYPRESS 66, ALISO NIGUEL 54: Cypress depth paid off in the final game of Feast Week at Foothill Thursday. Gavin Kroll hit six 3-pointers leading Cypress with 28 points. Ryan Gov and Emmanuel Igbekoyi each had nine points and two 3-pointers for Cypress (4-0).

Aliso Niguel (3-3) was led by Wyatt Richmond with 17 points and five 3-pointers and Collin Tjin with 15 points and five 3-pointers.

Cypress plays Inglewood on Monday at the Ryse Williams PAC Shores tournament at Redondo Union.

RANCHO ALAMITOS TOURNAMENT

IRVINE 72, VALENCIA 38: The Vaqueros (5-3) were led by Holden Stearns, who had 21 points. Jalen Yim had 13 points, Chase Brito 12 points and Younes Boubeker seven points. Irvine hosts Saddleback next Friday in a non-league game.

ARTESIA THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT

VILLA PARK 71, DIAMOND BAR 63: The Spartans captured a win in the championship game Saturday. Villa Park (7-2) was led by tournament MVP Hayden Hakala who had 21 points and three assists. Sebastian Perez had 16 points and four 3-pointers, Nate Chung 10 points and three rebounds and Jorden Salem seven points and 12 rebounds for Villa Park, which has won six in a row.

THANKSGIVING TIP-OFF CLASSIC

SANTA MARGARITA 83, RANCHO VERDE 41: The Eagles (6-0) were led by Drew Anderson, who scored 26 points and grabbed six rebounds. Kaiden Bailey had 19 points, Brayden Kyman 10 points, Markee White nine points and Jackson Bradley eight points and 10 rebounds. Luke Scopaz had four assists for the Eagles.

SAN JUAN HILLS 62, OTAY RANCH 54: The Stallions (3-2) were led by Rocco Jensen who had 22 points and eight rebounds, Nick Francik who had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Cam Goltara who had 10 points and two rebounds.

BERNSTEIN 71, UNIVERSITY 64: The Bernstein Dragons of Hollywood improved to 3-0 with a back and forth overtime win over University in the opening game of the Thanksgiving Tip-Off Showcase at Santa Margarita High School.

After trailing 4-0 and a timeout, University led most of the first half to lead 26-20 at the halftime break. Bernstein cut the University lead to 43-40 after three quarters. The Trojans seemingly had the game under control with a 57-45 lead with 2:44 left in regulation.

Over the next minute and eight seconds, Bernstein forced a few turnovers and cut the lead to 59-55. The Dragons scored four more points to send the game into overtime. University had their three top scorers of the game foul out late and Bernstein was able to secure the win in the four-minute overtime.

The outstanding players of the game were a pair on juniors: Bernstein’s guard Anthony Llamas and University’s center Abdallah Shami. Llamas finished with 41 points, 32 points after halftime, including three 3-pointers and 16 free throws in 21 attempts.

Shami had his fourth double-double in his last five games netting 12 points to go along with 20 rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks.

Senior guard Benny Rosado contributed 10 points off the bench for Bernstein. For University, junior guard Nader Chalan had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. His sophomore guard brother Yousuf Chalan had a nearly identical 11 points, five rebounds and four assists in a reserve role. Senior forward Josh Thio added 10 points with two 3-pointers.

University (2-5) next plays in a tournament at Savanna High School on Tuesday, Dec 9.

NON-LEAGUE

EL DORADO 75, MARTIN LUTHERAN KING 64: The Golden Hawks were led by Eli Rodarte, who had 23 points including eight points in the fourth quarter. He also had three 3-pointers. Evan Nam had 15 points, Ryan Northcutt 12 points and 10 rebounds, Noah Barker 12 points and Jack Boettner eight points.

TRABUCO HILLS 63, HUNTINGTON BEACH 60: The Mustangs (4-3) were led by Shoji Karst who had 24 points, five assists and four rebounds, Ryan Hull who had 13 points and Jimmy Baker who had eight points and eight rebounds.
