CIF baseball playoff quarterfinal round final scores and highlights for OC teams

Quarterfinals, Friday, May 10, semifinals Tuesday, May 14, finals May 17-18 at Lake Elsinore Baseball Stadium.

BECKMAN 6, NEWBURY PARK 1: Beckman captured a road victory in the quarterfinals Friday behind a complete game by Zach Ireland, who became the program’s all-time wins leader. Beckman plays at Los Alamitos Tuesday in the semifinals.

Los Alamitos 2, Mission Viejo 1

DIVISION 5

CHINO 9, CALVARY CHAPEL 1: Behind the two-hit pitching of senior righthander Paccelli Nieto, Chino topped Calvary Chapel 9-1, in a quarterfinal playoffat the Great Park.

Eight of the Chino starting nine got at least one hit. Designated hitter Carson Sena led the way with two hits and three RBI while Xiovany Ochoa and Maximus Barroso each had two hits and scored two runs.

Calvary Chapel (15-13) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, but could only manage its only run of the game on a Ben Steele sacrifice fly. Waylon Pipia had a bunt single to third in the first and Steele had a solid single to center in the sixth for the Eagles’ only hits.

Casey Jones was hit by a pitch twice, scored a run, threw out a runner at the plate and made a fine running catch in right center.

The Cowboys (14-9-1) advance to the semifinals. Nieto allowed just six baserunners and struck out six, retiring the side in order four times.

DIVISION 7

DESERT CHRISTIAN 5, SANTA ANA 2: After notching two playoff victories, Santa Ana’s season came to an end Friday in the quarterfinals at Santa Ana. Desert Christian hit three home runs in the game, two by Jacob Acosta to move into the semifinals.
