As the coronavirus pandemic continues to cause disruptions for high school and college teams, Pacific Coast League athletic directors have had to make a number of postponements in boys and girls basketball schedules.
Just one out of three scheduled boys games were played Tuesday night with Portola defeating Irvine 86-36.
Woodbridge’s boys game with Beckman was postponed “out of caution,” according to Woodbridge Athletic Director Brian Walsh.
Also Tuesday, Northwood was forced to postpone both the boys and girls basketball games due to COVID-protocol within its program, according to Brandon Emery, co-athletic director.
Northwood was scheduled to face Laguna Hills Tuesday and Irvine Friday. Emery said the Irvine game will be rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 24 and the Laguna Hills game on Monday, Jan. 31.
Also Tuesday, the Portola vs. Irvine girls basketball game was postponed, according to Portola Athletic Director Peter Abe. No reason was given for the postponement.
Portola (3-0) is scheduled to meet Woodbridge (4-0) Friday at Portola in a girls game. It is not clear whether that game will go on as scheduled. The boys game has already been postponed, Walsh said.
