Woodbridge and Pacifica win; Irvine and Oxford Academy meet in tourney title game Friday

Woodbridge’s baseball team notched its second road win in a row, defeating Ocean View 5-2 in the Loara Tournament Thursday.

Senior Aanan Ramanathan picked up his second win on the season. He pitched six innings, scattered seven hits and allowed one earned run for the Warriors (4-2).

Junior Adam Moylan was 3-for-4 with an RBI and sophomore Connor Tallakson had a double.

Junior Jakob Trestik and senior Jefferey Quezada had RBI singles and freshman Sean McCance drove in his third run of the season.

“Overall we played very well and it was nice to get a win on the road,” said Coach Ryan Brucker.

“We had really good energy by our dugout today, which is huge. Aanan competed well on the mound for us and was around the zone all game long. He is a strike thrower which keeps our defense in the game. Offensively we had a good approach today. We battled early in the game and didn’t give away at bats. We put some balls in play and took advantage of some mistakes on their end.

“It was another good win and I am really proud of this group. With the weather we have had to play all six of our games this season on the road. They have hung tough and played well these past two games and which shows they are a resilient group, and says a lot about their character. We have one more game to get better and dial it in before league starts. We may even get a home game on Saturday.”

Also Thursday:

Mission Viejo 4, Long Beach Wilson 4: The tournament game was called after eight innings because of darkness. Luke Spillane was 3 for 4 with a double and a home run and two RBI, Andrew Hendrawan was 2 for 3 and Nick Dietsch 2 for 4 for the Diablos (2-2-1).

Pacifica 1, Downey 0: The Mariners recorded a 1-0 victory over Downey in the fourth round of the Loara Tournament. Junior Brennan Horne threw a complete game shutout for Pacifica (3-2) and Noah Ortega threw a complete game for Downey.

Coming up: Irvine’s baseball team (4-1) will face Oxford Academy (3-0) Friday at 3 p.m. at Irvine in the championship game of the Orange Division of the Newport Elks Tournament.
