Woodbridge and Beckman capture Pacific Coast League baseball victories

Woodbridge and Beckman captured Pacific Coast League victories on Friday.

WOODBRIDGE 4, IRVINE 0: Woodbridge improved its record to 2-1 in the Pacific Coast League with the win over Irvine Friday at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.

Junior Sean McCance, was 1 for 3 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored; senior Jaden Hoang-Tieu, was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base and senior Dylan Kim was 1 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.

Senior Jack Bunnell also contributed with a double, an RBI and a run scored. He also started on the mound allowing no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings and three hits. He struck out nine and walked three.

“Offensively the top of lineup continues to pace us, and I thought we had competitive at-bats today versus a good pitcher,” said Woodbridge Coach Ryan Brucker. “But it all starts on the mound, and Jack Bunnell pitched well. He filled up the strike zone and competed to get us out of a couple of tough spots. It was a good team win.”

Woodbridge plays at University (2-2) Saturday at 11 a.m.

BECKMAN 6, NORTHWOOD 1: Wyatt Zadoorian threw a complete game two hitter, striking out seven for Beckman (3-1).

Nick McLain was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple, Nolan Han was 1-for-3 with two RBI, Jacob Zamosky was 2-for-2 with a triple and Jacob Hong was 1-for-2 with two RBI.

“Wyatt was spectacular today,” said Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle. “Whenever your pitcher commands the strike zone, it makes it really easy on everyone. It was the type of performance that will win a lot of games for us.”

Northwood fell to 0-3 to start the season. Beckman hosts Irvine Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

In another game Friday, University defeated Portola 3-1 while Laguna Hills (3-0) had the bye.
