Woodbridge High’s girls soccer team has advanced into the quarterfinal round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs to face top-seeded Mira Costa Wednesday.
The match will be at 3 p.m. at Mira Costa. Mira Costa is 20-2 overall.
Woodbridge (17-3-1) advanced with a 2-1 victory over Paloma Valley on Saturday.
After falling behind 1-0, Woodbridge battled back. Lizzy Broten had a direct ball out of the back and Hannah Cooper ran on to it beat the goalkeeper to tie it up, according to Woodbridge Coach Jackie Farber.
In the second half, Woodbridge scored off a free kick right outside the 18 ont the end line. Jayla Land played the ball in and Cooper headed it in, the coach added.
“The girls had very strong composure and possession in this game, ” Farber said. “Personally I thought it was one of our best performances all year. Sophia Venegas shut down their Arizona commit all game and held her to virtually no shots on net.
“Rebecca Giat our freshman, really shined with fantastic decision making on the ball.”
