It was quite a weekend of high school football in Orange County.
Portola, in only its second year of varsity competition, earned a share of its first league title and captured the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy. Marina, Corona del Mar and Western also earned shares of league crowns. Northwood, Orange, Santa Ana and Capistrano Valley Christian remained in the hunt for league titles too. And Sunny Hills rolled to a 56-21 victory over Fullerton. Segerstrom and Garden Grove still have a chance of sharing the Big Four League title.
Long-time Woodbridge High football Coach Rick Gibson announced after Friday’s victory over University that he would step down after Friday’s game against Portola, the final regular season game for the Warriors.
There was controversy too at Westminster High during the Segerstrom-Marina football game Friday night.
