University’s baseball team opened Pacific Coast League play Friday defeating University 1-0.
Brad Hodges got the win throwing a complete game and striking out 10 while allowing six hits.
University’s Andrew Keys had an RBI single and the only single for University.
“Their starter Liu threw six innings against us and was very good.
said Uni Coach Michael Thompson.
The run scored after a walk and a two base error on a failed pick off and then a base hit by Keys.
“Brad pitched out of some really tough jams but overall was exceptional today.” Thompson said.

Beckman 6, Portola 0: The defending champion Patriots opened Pacific Coast League with a victory at home in Portola’s first varsity game.
Beckman scored three runs in the first inning and wound up with 11 hits as four Patriot pitchers combined to allow just three hits.
Sean McLain had three hits for Beckman and Alec Gomez had two RBI for the Patriots.
