University High School’s football team will be out to win its second game in a row when it faces Irvine (1-3) in a non-league game Friday night at Uni.
The Trojans improved their record to 2-2 Friday with a 34-0 victory over Century in a game that was called at halftime due to a reported lighting strike and weather conditions at Century.
“Our offense played great with minimal errors particularly the offensive line,” said Uni Coach Vince Mesa. “Koa Saito had a near flawless game throwing for over 200 yards and four touchdowns.
“The ball was spread evenly between Blaine Anderson, Jonathan Soto, Jai Williams, Asger Ross and Zephyr Reynolds. The defense played lights out giving up only one first down all half and holding Century to zero points. Some standout players on defense were Chris Rue, Asger Ross, Brooks Backmann and Jai Williams.”
University opened the season losing to Dana Hills 21-14; defeated Magnolia 44-0; and lost to Ocean View, 8-6.
Coach Tom Ricci’s Irvine team defeated Portola, 31-10; lost to Canyon 28-22; Troy 29-14; and Long Beach Jordan 48-25.
