University and Northwood boys basketball teams recorded victories Friday night in the So Cal Elite Gary Raya Classic.
University improved its record to 8-5 with a 79-66 victory over El Dorado. The Trojans led 34-33 at halftime and then broke the game open outscoring El Dorado 28-10 in the third quarter.
Kody Uyesugi led University with 21 points while Will Stenta had 16 points. Brandon Liu also had a strong game with 13 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.
“Our press started turning them over in the third quarter and we converted easy steals into easy baskets,” said University Coach Mike Dinneen.
El Dorado was led by Jake Polling and John Bakke with 21 points each.
University faces Woodbridge Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Woodbridgr to wrap up the tournament. Woodbridge lost to San Clemente 76-75 in overtime.
Northwood improved its record to 3-7 with a 70-57 victory over Esperanza Friday night at Northwood. Amir Flint led the Timberwolves with 16 points. Can Oz had 13 points and Trent Harper and Nathan Maloney with 12 points each.
