Tustin High’s football team is preparing for its season opener on Friday, Aug. 23 against Capistrano Valley under first year coach Anthony Lopez, who replaces legendary coach Myron Miller.
Miller resigned after last season and has joined Scott Meyer’s staff at Lakewood.
The Tillers will play their first six games on their home field. The game against Foothill on Aug. 30 will be Foothill’s home game.
“The schedule is in our favor,” Lopez said. “We have our first true away game in week seven and that’s in Irvine (against Crean Lutheran).
“We play Capo Valley out of the gate. I know they’re in transition with a new coach (Sean Curtis) but they’re always strong, we have Foothill in week two and Coach (Doug) Case has done a great job with those guys getting them ready, Don Lugo is going to be tough and Ayala, which is in our division. I feel we can compete with the best of them with the guys we have.”
