Segerstrom’s baseball team made the defensive plays Tuesday afternoon but the Jaguars couldn’t get much going offensively, losing to Palos Verdes 5-0 in a CIF Division 3 wild card game at Segerstrom.

Palos Verdes sophomore Ryan Anderson went the distance on the mound allowing just three hits and striking out two.
“He threw the ball pretty good,” said Segerstrom Coach Erasmo Ramirez. “I thought our guys went up to the plate with a good approach. That kid just had a couple different breaking balls and one that was a little tighter than the other and we just couldn’t barrel anything up.
“And when we did get fastballs, it’s our responsibility to get the bat on the ball and we didn’t do it enough.”
Palos Verdes (17-12) scored two runs in the second inning and made it stand up.
Noah Delio had a sacrfice fly and Ambrose Russo an RBI single to put the Sea Kings ahead 2-0.
Segerstrom (17-10) had three double plays to keep the game close, but Palos Verdes added another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Segerstrom threatened in the first inning. With one out, Nick Ochoa singled and Andrew Barajas was aboard on a catcher’s interference. But Tyler Lopez flied out and Sabas Diaz popped out to end the inning.
In the fourth inning, Barajas singled to lead off and stole second but was stranded there. Segerstrom also had runners in scoring position in the fifth and seventh innings but came away empty handed.
“They came out and got the hits and we didn’t,” Ramirez said. “That’s pretty much how the game played out.”
Nic Landeros-Sosa started on the mound for Segerstrom and pitched into the sixth inning before being relieved by Martin Najera. Donovan Orozco came on in the seventh to finish the game.
“I thought Nic Landeros-Sosa made some pitches when he had to and got those three double plays,” Ramirez said. “He pitched good enough to win. We just didn’t come out with the bats.”
