Santa Ana High’s boys soccer team defeated Costa Mesa 6-2 Monday in an Orange Coast League match to capture its seventh consecutive league title.
It’s the 28th league championship for the program, led by Coach Joe Peñaflor, who earlier this year earned his 300th career victory.
“I’m pretty excited about it,” said Peñaflor. “The kids are pretty excited about it but I think they’re kind of looking forward to the game on Wednesday with Saddleback and getting ready for the playoffs. That’s kind of our focus is now.”
Paul Carrillo scored two goals and Ceasar Zamora, Joel Espejo, Saul Ortuno and Abdi Diaz had one goal each to help the Saints improve their overall record to 18-3-2 and league mark at 8-0-1 in league. The Saints, ranked seventh in this week’s CIF Division 1 poll, host Saddleback Wednesday at the Santa Ana Stadium.
