Santa Ana High School officials announced the hiring of Rory Schoonmaker as the new varsity football coach Tuesday night and said they were excited to welcome him as coach.

“With Coach Schoonmaker we not only have a head coach who is a teacher on campus, but he is also a highly skilled and respected coach who has been on staff as our offensive Coordinator for the past six years where he was an instrumental component of our success throughout that time,” Athletic Director Brian Lillie said.

“We’re excited about what Rory will bring to the program in his role as head coach, instilling his vision for the program. I know the boys were pulling for Coach Schoon to take the position, and with his hiring we look forward to what he will do to continue to build on our past success. He has already begun implementing his standards for the players and the program with his expectations initially focusing on character, integrity, discipline and work ethic.”

Schoonmaker was previously quarterbacks coach at Santa Ana College and offensive coordinator at Brethren Christian. He also had a stint as quarterbacks coach at Canyon High and has been offensive coordinator at Santa Ana since 2017.

Schoonmaker, who had been the Saints’ interim coach, replaces Charlie TeGantvoort who resigned to take the head coaching job at Marina High School.
