Portola High School football standout Parker Olthoff, a tight end and defensive end, signed a national letter of intent to play college football with Drake University Wednesday, according to Athletic Director and football Coach Peter Abe.
“Couldn’t be more proud of Parker Olthoff committing to Drake University,” Abe said. “The work he’s put in over the past few years has been admirable. We look forward to continuing to support him as he takes this next big step in his student-athlete career. Parker helped to make Friday Night under the Lights at Portola High School a truly special and exciting event to be a part of.”

Olthoff was named the team’s most improved player and led the team and league in sacks, tackles for loss and caused fumbles. He was also All-CIF and earned first team All-Pacific Coast League.
“Parker is a great young man, hard working, and always has a smile on his face ….. Big when he gets on the field or in the weightroom,” Abe said. “Number five set his sights on a goal after freshman year and persevered through these crazy times to earn this opportunity.
“He’s like a Swiss Army Knife. Tight End, defensive Line, running down on kickoffs, personal protector on punts …. Speed, strength, hands, blocking ability, heart and a toughness that’s hard to match.. The kid’s got it all. His Bulldog Family is proud of him, and can’t wait to follow his career at Drake.”
Drake University’s nickname is also the Bulldogs.
