Mater Dei winds up the abbreviated spring season 5-0 while St. John Bosco finished 5-1. Mater Dei, coached by Bruce Rollinson, was able to avenge last year’s 39-34 loss to St. John Bosco in the CIF Division 1 finals.
Since there are no CIF playoffs this year, the game took on added importance as the last one of the abbreviated spring season.
The Monarchs sealed the victory on a 42-yard field goal by Chase Meyer with 3:31 remaining in the game which put them ahead 34-17. Meyer also had a 38-yard field goal earlier in the game.
Brown connected with Josiah Zamora on a touchdown pass to put Mater Dei ahead 31-17 lead. Brown hit Kyron Ware- Hudson on a 64-yard touchdown pass to give Mater Dei a 21-17 lead.
St. John Bosco gave Mater Dei all it could handle from the start.
The Braves took a 14-7 lead when sophomore quarterback Pierce Clarkson connected with Matayo Uiagalelei on a touchdown before Mater Dei began its comeback.
