There is ample evidence to support a nickname for Canyon High School’s offense and the first nomination is …. “YAC Attack.”

“YAC” is one of those seemingly endless New Age sports statistics and it means “yards after catch.”

That statistic was on full display Friday night when Canyon quarterback Anders “Christian” Lundsberg threw five first-half touchdown passes as the visiting Comanches (5-0) overwhelmed Brea Olinda 41-7 in a non-league football game.

Brea Olinda, supported by a big crowd, celebrated homecoming with the Class of ’72, which was marking its 50th reunion.

The star of the night on the field was Canyon’s 6-foot-4, 205-pound Lundsberg. who is fully capable of going deep, as he demonstrated on fifth TD throw, a 46-yard bomb to Jaden Gonzales, to lofting a toss over a defender, as he did on his first TD, a 12-yard pass to Kayvon Monfared or on three assorted passes to the gifted Fox Haugen, 16, 10 and 34 yards.

He can also had the ball to someone else, as he did on the Comanches’ final score, a 1-yard run by Kyle Krause.

At the end of the evening Lundsberg had increased his county leading touchdown pass total to 28 in five games. In his last 13 games (he played eight as a junior} Lundsberg has thrown 55 scoring passes.
The recipient of many of those throws was Hugen, who caught 18 TD passes as a junior and has nine in five games this year.

While the Canyon was unstoppable, the Comanche defense was just as difficult to handle, led by defensive back Thomas Cabral and two-way lineman Hayden Prochnow.

Cabral set up Canyon’s first score by returning the opening kickoff more than 50 yards and then played a role in the second TD with his return of an interception. Prochnow had several pressures of Brea’s young quarterback, Cullen Doyle, as well as a couple of sacks.

Brea Olinda’s lone score came on a 2-yard run by Jeremiah Dafrey. Next Friday, Canyon hosts Foothill (3-2) Friday at 7. Brea-Olinda (3-2) as at Esperanza (1-4).
