Overstreet scores 30 points to lead La Habra to 68-38 Freeway League victory over Sunny Hills; Fairmont Prep and Villa Park also win

La Habra’s boys basketball team improved its overall record to 22-2 and inched closer to the Freeway League title with a 68-38 victory over Sunny Hills Tuesday night at Sunny Hills.

Ja’len Overstreet scored 30 points and made four 3-pointers and Sam Howlin had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Highlanders (7-0 in league).

Sunny Hills (14-13, 3-4) was led by Luke Hosozawa with 14 points.

“This is a huge win for the boys and personally for our coaching staff,” said La Habra Coach Aaron Riekenberg. “We’ve lost some tough games in this gym and our boys made sure that didn’t happen tonight. Ja’len was special. Sunny always does a good job of taking away one or two guys and Ja’len stepped up tonight like he has in other big spots this season and carried the load offensively.

“This was a great team win, but with Troy on Friday, it’s time to get right back to work.”
