Orange County boys and girls soccer teams compete in CIF soccer playoffs

A number of Orange County high school girls and soccer teams are seeded high in the CIF playoffs that begin this week.

The boys playoffs begin on Wednesday and the girls playoffs start on Thursday. Both have nine divisions each consisting of 264 teams.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, at Fred Kelly Stadium at El Modena High School or Veterans’ Stadium at Long Beach City College.

Preliminary round matches are scheduled for 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. but could be changed if the two teams agree.

Boys soccer

Trinity League champion Mater Dei (12-1-3) is seeded second and Empire League champion Valencia (14-1-1) is seeded fourth in the eight team open division which will utilize a pool play format.

Crestview League champion Canyon (15-1-3) is seeded first in Division 1.

Coast League champion Saddleback (10-4-5) is seeded third and Empire League runner-up Godinez (7-8-6) is seeded fourth in Division 3.

University (10-5-1), the Pacific Coast League No. 3 team, is seeded third and Pacific Coast League at-large entry Sage Hill (9-7-3) fourth in Division 4.

Esperanza (5-8-6) the North Hills League No. 3 team, is seeded third in Division 5.

Kennedy (7-8-5) the No. 3 team from the Orange Coast League, is seeded first in Division 6.

Girls soccer

Trinity League champion Santa Margarita (14-1-3) is seeded first and Trinity League runner-up Mater Dei (11-2-7) is seeded third in the eight-team open division, which will utilize a pool play format.

Sunset League champion Edison (11-7-3) is seeded third in Division 1.

Beckman (7-10-2), the No. 3 team from the Sea View League, is seeded first and North Hills at-large team Villla Park (6-5-6) is seeded fourth in Division 2.

Pacific Coast League runner-up Northwood (5-8-2) is seeded fourth in Division 3.

Golden West League runner-up Kennedy (15-5) is seeded third in Division 5.
