Cypress (Division 3) and Irvine (Division 5) are seeded No. 1 in their divisions in the CIF softballl playoffs that begin with wild card games on Tuesday, May 2 and first round contests for all divisions on Thursday, May 4.
CIF officials said that 226 teams are involved in the competition, which will wrap up at Deanna Manning Stadium at Colonel Bill Barber Park in Irvine on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20.
A number of other OC teams earned top four seeds. In Division 1, Los Alamitos is second, Orange Lutheran third and Huntington Beach fourth behind top-seeded Norco.
Aliso Niguel is second and Santa Margarita third in Division 3, Northwood, the No. 4 team from the PCL is second in Division 5 and Crean Lutheran, an at-large team from the Empire League, is third in Division 7.
Cypress, the Empire League champion, opens Thursday the CIF Division 3 playoffs at home against the winner of the Diamond Bar vs. Hemet wild card game. Irvine, the Pacific Coast League runner-up, opens up Thursday at Calvary Chapel Santa Ana.
Pacific Coast League champion Woodbridge opens Thursday at home at Deanna Manning Stadium in the Division 4 playoffs against Canyon of Canyon Country. The Warriors wrapped up the 25th league title for the program this week.
Crean Lutheran opens up Thursday at United Christian Academy.
