Northwood wins two; Uni, Santa Ana and Sunny Hills also capture Saturday victories

NORTHWOOD 6, PORTOLA 2: The Timberwolves won the first game of a Pacific Coast League make-up doubleheader Saturday. Bobby Bangs went seven innings allowing two hits and striking out eight. Paul Grossman threw two scoreless innings to notch the victory. Adam Harper was 4 for 5 and Mike Lopez 2 for 4 with an RBI. Lucas Marinelli and Rocky Palacio both hit solo home runs for Portola (4-7, 2-6).

Northwood (8-2, 7-1) is in second place behind league-leading Woodbridge which captured a doubleheader over Irvine Saturday. Woodbridge (11-2, 9-1) has played more league games than Northwood.

NORTHWOOD 8, PORTOLA 2: Casey Euper went five innings to record the victory in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday. He allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out five. Adam Harper was 4 for 5 once again and Jordan Kim 2 for 3 with two RBI.

UNIVERSITY 1, BECKMAN 0: The Trojans (6-4-1, 3-4-1) earned a split of a Pacific Coast League makeup doubleheader Saturday at University. Beckman (5-5-1, 3-4-1) won the opener 6-3. In the second game, Austen Barnett pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and Logan Rome 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

SANTA ANA 3, ST. MARGARET’S 1: The Saints (3-5, 1-2) captured an Orange Coast League victory Saturday night on the road against St. Margaret’s (0-6, 0-3). Julian Gonzalez got the victory, striking out eight and allowing three hits over six innings. He was also 1 for 3 with two RB. Emiliano Valadez got the save and had a hit for Coach Dave Silva’s team, which outhit St. Margaret’s 5-3. Josh Delgado was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Matt Van had an RBI. Santa Ana is scheduled to play at Estancia on Tuesday.

SUNNY HILLS 9, DAMONTE RANCH 4: Sunny Hills (6-3-1) recorded a tournament win on Saturday. Brayden Chen pitched four innings, Rylan Morris pitched two innings, striking out four and Andre Katayama pitched one inning striking out three. Morris was 2 for 5 with a double and a triple, Peter Mellana was 2 for 4 and Tyler Simkins 4 for 4 with three runs scored.
