Shawn Larkins has been named the new head varsity boys basketball coach at Tarbut V’Torah and will be joined by long-time Orange County coach Jerry Neitlich, who will be the lead assistant coach.
TVT Athletic Director Jeff Towning informed parents of the basketball program of the decision on Friday, according to Neitlich.
Larkins played high school basketball at Valencia and then went on to play at Cypress College. He has coached at TVT and at the Fryer Basketball Academy.
“Shawn is not only a tremendous teacher of the game, but he is also extremely motivated to produce quality young men on and off the court. He shares the same values and principles that we pride ourselves on at TVT, and there is no doubt in my mind he is committed to being a positive mentor for our student athletes, who will push them to be the best versions of themselves on and off the court,” Towning said in his letter to families.
Towning said that Neitlich “brings with him a rich tradition of hoops knowledge as a player and coach. He has coached numerous players who went on to play at the collegiate level and has coached many Maccabi teams in his coaching career.”
Neitlich told OC Sports Zone he’s excited about his new role and the prospects for the team.
TVT reached the quarterfinal round of the CIF 5A playoffs, losing to La Quinta 54-43 last season.
