Mater Dei’s girls basketball team captured its second consecutive CIF Open Division title, defeating No. 1 seeded Centennial 83-80 in overtime Thursday night in Corona.
The No. 2-seeded Monarchs were led by Brooke Demetre, who had 28 points, Nalani White who had 17 points and the game winning three-pointer; Caia Elisaldez, who had 16 points and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, who had 12 points.
Coach Kevin Kiernan’s squad (20-0) opens the Southern California Regionals next week.
Centennial, which will also be in the regional, fell to 22-1.
