Madison Lyon of Woodbridge had a big night Friday winning four events to lead the Warriors to a co-championship at the Pacific Coast League track and field finals at Portola.

Lyon won the long jump, the triple jump, the 100 high hurdles and the high jump, scoring 40 points for the Warriors.

The final scores were adjusted on Saturday, according to Northwood assistant coach George Varvas. There was a mistake in the girls long jump at the meet, so Northwood picked up two points and the score ended in a tie between Woodbridge and Northwood, who both had 147 points.

The teams had a 4-1 dual meet record in the PCL, so they wind up as co-champs, Varvas said. Beckman took third place with 121 points.

Lyon had a time of 15.20 in the 100 meter hurdles and also won the the high jump (5-2), the long jump (18-04.5) and the triple jump (39-03).

“I’m very proud of myself for pushing through all four events and I’m just excited for the whole team,” the Woodbridge junior said.

“The goal was what I achieved. I also wanted to break my long jump PR which I did and the record and I wanted to jump the triple jump record which I also did and honestly just have fun with the night.”

Lyon said she had a feeling going into the meet it would be a special day.

“I knew I had a lot of pressure under me and I thought it was going to be a good night,” she said.

It’s the first time that Lyon has captured first place in four events.

“Last year, I got first and second, but this time it was all firsts,” she said. “It’s very exciting.”

Lyon and her teammates will now move on to the CIF prelims.

“I’ll be competing in all four, later I might have to drop a few events so I can focus on my main event, which is triple (jump), Lyon said. “I would say triple (jump) is probably my best event.”

Lyon also had some advice for other athletes.

“If anyone is having a stressful night, they just have to focus on each event at a time and remember that you’ve worked so hard for this to come and it’s not a night to just throw away so you just have to enjoy it and have fun with it.”
