Cypress High’s boys basketball team remained atop the Empire League standings with a 66-45 victory over Valencia Tuesday night at Cypress.
“It was Military Appreciation Night where we honored many former Centurions and friends or family members from our program, who have served in our military,” said Cypress Coach Derek Mitchell.
“It was our way of thanking those who have allowed us to participate in high school athletics by protecting our freedom.”
The Centurions (18-5, 5-0) captured their 10th consecutive victory.
“It was an all around effort tonight,” Mitchell said.
Christian Chai had 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Eddie Spencer scored 13 points and made two 3-pointers while grabbing six rebounds to lead Cypress.
Elijah Vaielua had 11 points 10 rebounds for Cypress.
Cypress will host Tustin on Friday as the second round of league play begins.
