JSerra boys basketball team stays undefeated; Uni, CdM, Yorba Linda and Newport Harbor also win

JSerra’s boys basketball team advanced to the championship semifinals of the So Cal Elite Gary Raya Classic, defeating Northwood 65-55 Wednesday night at Northwood.

JSerra (12-0) was led by DJ Rodman, who scored 25 points and Justin Williams, who scored 12 points.

Northwood (2-7) was led by Shandon Sharifi, who had 22 points and made six 3-pointers. Amit Flint had 15 points and Nathan Maloney 10 points and eight rebounds for Northwood.

Northwood led early in the second quarter 19-17 but JSerra finished the quarter strong and held a 38-22 after Max Bowman hit a 3-point field goal toward the end of the first half.

JSerra will face Tesoro Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Northwood with the winner moving on to the championship game Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at Woodbridge.

Also tonight in the Gary Raya Classic:

University 83, San Clemente 81 (overtime): Kody Uyesugi led University (7-5) with 27 points. He passed to Noah Small for a layup as time expired. Andrea Roy had 15 points, making five 3-pointers.

Sam Aryan had 11 points and eight rebounds while Arjun Gill had a double double with 10 points and 10 assists.

San Clemente (4-6) was led by Andrew Herbert, who had 24 points.

The Tritons overcame a 9-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

“Kody made a great play at the end setting up Noah Small for the game winner,” said University Coach Mike Dinneen.

University plays El Dorado Friday at 5:30 p.m. at El Dorado.

Corona del Mar 67, Woodbridge 50: Jack Stone scored 22 points, John Humphreys had 16 points and Jack Garza 12 points to lead Corona del Mar (6-3). Woodbridge (3-6) was led by Jackson Rain with 10 points. Torin Asefie  added eight points and Brandon Clarke-Hosler had seven points for the Warriors.

In nonleague games:

Newport Harbor 84, San Juan Hills 54: Newport Harbor improved its overall record to 10-1. Dayne Chalmers and Robbie Spooner each had 21 points and Sam Barela had 10 points and 12 assists.The Sailors are home on Friday against Sage Hill. 

Yorba Linda 69, California 62: Cory Knutson had 22 points, Connor Platt 15 points and Omaire Memon 10 points to lead the Mustangs (9-4).

Beckman 74, Murrieta Mesa 71: Dylan Thoerner scored  28 points to lead the Patriots (8-3). Shubh Khandhadia had 19 points and five 3-pointers and Aaman Soma had 11 points.
