Irvine High receiver Kade Zimmerman, who helped Irvine capture the Pacific Valley League title, announced Tuesday that he has committed to Black Hills State University in South Dakota to continue his football careeer.
“Im blessed at this time to be able to go to this university while the recruiting process was very hard and different than usual,” Zimmerman said Wednesday. “I feel for the other student athletes who’s dreams and goals were put on hold because of COVID. I’m exited for this next chapter of my life and we will see how far I can take this.”
Zimmerman was the MVP of the league and in the season opener against Canyon, he had a school record 13 receptions.
Zimmerman finished the abbreviated spring season with 452 yards receiving with eight touchdowns. He averaged 18.1 yards per catch.
“That puts him at around 1,500 yards receiving for the past two seasons,” said Irvine Coach Tom Ricci. “I’m so glad that he chose Black Hills State. They were extremely high on him and hounded him through the season, so I know they are excited to get him. He deserves whatever he gets. He’s worked harder than most guys I have seen in my years of experience. He continually hones his craft and will be a fantastic addition to the Yellow Jackets.”
On Twitter Tuesday, Zimmerman thanked God, his coaches, family and teammates who have helped him.
Before the season, he also remembered his late grand-father Gene Molway, who also inspired him.
Zimmerman has also competed for Coach Gabriel Cota’s Irvine baseball team which is in strong consideration for an at-large berth in the CIF playoffs that begin next week.
