IRVINE 7, NORTHWOOD 5: Irvine improved its record to 5-4 with the victory.

“Today was a test of mental resolve,” said Irvine Coach Gabiel Cota. “We went up early and, a testament to them, they battled all the way back. Northwood is such a class program you know it will never be easy against them.”

Irvine was led by Jeremiah Gedeon, who was 1 for 2, triple, two RBI and a run scored. JC Allen was 2 for 3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored, and Samuel Dimaculanan 2 for 4.

J.C. Allen again pitched well for Irvine, throwing four innings, allowing one earned run and striking out six. Taylor Skelley came on to record the save and struck out two.

LAGUNA HILLS 11, UNIVERSITY 8: Billy Schellenberg was 2 for 3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Hawks (7-2). Zach Ferranto was 2 for 3 with three RBI and Scott Kato was 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Laguna Hills is a half game behind league-leading Woodbridge, which had a bye Monday.

“This was a wild back and forth game,” said Laguna Hills Coach Drew Hillman. “Billy Schellenberg provided a huge spark for us offensively with two home runs. Jordan Volk ate up some innings on the mound and Beau Schweitzer did a great job coming in to close out the game.”

BECKMAN 3, PORTOLA 0: The Patriots (7-2) moved to within a half game of league-leading Woodbridge with the victory. Lucas Welch pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits, according to Patriots Coach Kevin Lavalle.
