Irvine High School’s girls flag football team, coached by Madison Krusmark, played its first game ever and came away with a 19-6 victory over Laguna Hills Wednesday at Irvine Stadium.
Girls flag football is a CIF-approved sport for the first time and Irvine is part of the Pacific Coast League. League openers were Wednesday.
Irvine’s defense led the way with interceptions by juniors Kailee Quant and Hassina Mohammad.
“The girls had an outstanding game,” Krusmark said. “I am very proud of our defense and their ability to connect with each other on the field. It was an amazing experience to get to begin this program with such a great group of girls. I am looking forward to the rest of our season.”
