Irvine’s football team rallied with a touchdown in the fourth quarter to defeat Beckman 20-17 in a Pacific Coast League game at Irvine Stadium Friday night.

The Vaqueros improved their record to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league while Beckman fell to 4-3 and 1-1.
“It was a great game between two well coached teams,” said Irvine Coach Erik Terry. “Our defense played strong at the end and came up with the big interception to seal the victory. I commend our players for trusting the process and believing in each other.”
Quarterback Marc Filia connected with Bryce Tanikawa on a 29-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to put the Vaqueros ahead.
Ethan Shank had an interception for Irvine to seal the victory. Tyson Matthews scored Irvine’s second touchdown on an 8-yard TD run to give the Vaqueros a 14-0 lead before Beckman came back to tie the game and then take the lead.
Irvine took the early lead when Filia connected with Cade Zimmerman in the first quarter.
