Godinez High’s softball team defeated Heritage 9-4 on the road Tuesday in the second round of the CIF Division 4 playoffs to advance into the quarterfinal round on Thursday.
The Grizzlies (23-4) will host Maranatha (20-4) Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
“The girls played well yesterday even with a couple of errors early in the game,” said Godinez Coach Ed Medina. “After they settled down they began to play their game.”
Second baseman Savanna Pola went 3 for 5 with a double, two singles, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
First baseman Samantha Villanueva was 3 for 4 with with two runs scored.
Shortstop Keana Pola, pitcher Natalie Castro and third baseman Airilin Ramirez each had an RBI and outfielders Andrea Uriarte and Mia Saucedo had two RBI each.
Castro was the winning pitcher, notching her second playoff victory.
“The coaching staff did a great job and the girls truly won with their tremendous team effort,” Medina said.
Godinez opened the playoffs with a 14-5 victory over St. Anthony on Thursday at Godinez.
