Godinez High School officials announced Wednesday that varsity boys basketball coach Rob Morgan is retiring and will be replaced by Scott Dodge.
“We are pleased to announce that Scott Dodge has been chosen to lead our boys basketball program as head coach replacing Coach Rob Morgan who is retiring and moving out of state,” Athetic Director Bill Snyder said in a release.
“Coach Morgan successfully brought back our boys program back to prominence after the COVID shutdown and the retirement of SAUSD Legend Greg Coombs. Coach Morgan led the boys to two 20 win seasons, a Golden West League title in 2024, and a CIF quarterfinals appearance in 2024.
“His six years of boys coaching followed a successful six year run as our first girls basketball coach at Godinez where he was named Orange County girls coach of the year by the OC Register.“
Morgan led Godinez to a 20-9 overall record this past season. The Grizzlies finished second in the Golden West League and advanced to the first round of the CIF playoffs.
Dodge will be entering his 14th season at Godinez and Snyder said he is “extremely excited to be back coaching basketball at Godinez.”
“Coach Dodge has won league championships at the frosh and junior varsity levels in the past and is looking forward to working with the next generation of Grizzlies as he looks to continue to establish the championship pedigree that Godinez is known for across the county,” Snyder said.
“Coach Dodge is a Santa Ana native and played for Greg Coombs at Century High School from 2000-2004. As a player, he was part of the first and second league championships in Century High School’s history. He was also an all-league first team selection for his junior and senior seasons. Coach Dodge also coaches girls’ volleyball and baseball on campus. He is married and has four children aged seven, six, four and one and is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
“Scott is a valuable asset as a special education teacher on our campus and we are looking forward to his leadership within our athletic department and the future of Godinez boys basketball.”
