Former Sunny Hills head football coach Pete Karavedas, who led the Lancers to their first CIF title in 2019, has been named the new coach for Fullerton High School, Fullerton Principal Jon Caffrey confirmed Wednesday.
Karavedas replaces Richard Salazar, who resigned after six seasons. Karavedas resigned as football coach from Sunny Hills in February of 2022 after seven seasons as the Sunny Hills coach. He said he resigned to pursue educational opportunities. He was named assistant principal at Sunny Hills.
In his final season at Sunny Hills in 2021, the Lancers finished 7-4 and 4-1 in the Freeway League.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Karavedas as our new head football coach,” Caffrey told OC Sports Zone Wednesday. “I’m excited for our football team, our staff and our community and everybody involved at Fullerton High School.
“He is a great addition to an already outstanding school. I have a long history with Coach K and I look forward to working side by side with him again.”
Karavedas was the CIF Division VIII coach of the year in 2019 and also named the 2019-20 Fullerton District teacher of the year.
He will be a teacher at Fullerton, Caffrey added.
Fullerton’s football team was 0-10 and winless in five league games last season.
