SIX-WAY FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE TONIGHT IN TUSTIN
High school football fans in Tustin can get a sneak preview of the local teams during a scrimmage tonight (Friday, Aug. 10) at Tustin High.
There will be a six-way football scrimmage with Tustin, Foothill, Beckman, Segerstrom, Buena Park and Trabuco Hills, according to Tustin Athletic Director Thomas Giebe.
The scrimmage starts at approximately 6 p.m.
FUTURE FOOTBALL GAME WITH CORONA DEL MAR?
Woodbridge football coach Rick Gibson said Thursday he liked the challenge of leading his team into games with Corona del Mar in the Pacific Coast League.
Now that the Sea Kings are off to the Sunset League, Gibson said he thought about playing CdM in a nonleague game down the road.
“We actually talked about it as Coach (Dan) O’Shea left (the PCL) but at that time I kind of already had my ducks in a row with other teams,” Gibson said. “It’s a possibility but not for another two years though because I’m kind of locked into the contracts I have for that period of time.”
UNIVERSITY PLANNING SCRIMMAGE NEXT THURSDAY
University’s football team doesn’t have a zero week game next week. But the Trojans do have a scrimmage planned with Anaheim on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 3:30 p.m. at University.
“We put them through a conditioning test that first day which I think motivated them to stay in shape over the dead (practice) period,” said University Coach Scott Meyer. “They came back in good shape and I’m really happy with what they retained as far as the offensive and defensive schemes.”
DIFFERENT PRACTICE SCHEDULES FOR TEAMS
Gibson, the Warrior coach, has held early morning practices the last couple of weeks with practice usually ending around 10 a.m. each day. That has probably worked out well with the extreme heat and poor air quality conditions fron the Holy Fire this week.
At University, the players have gone through afternoon workouts, a challenge for the players.
