Godinez High’s football team was back on the field Friday night facing Magnolia at Santa Ana Valley. The Grizzlies did not play during the past spring season so the last Godinez game was in 2019.
The coronavirus pandemic delayed the start of the 2020 season until March of 2021.
Aron Kaye, the Grizzlies original coach, was back leading Godinez.
Godinez fumbled the opening kickoff and Magnolia also intercepted a pass which led to an early score. The touchdown was set up by an interception by Julian Guillen, helping the Grizzlies get to the Magnolia 1-yard line.
But Godinez came back to take the lead on a touchdown run by Julio Guillen. Magnolia finished strong to win 26-8.
Also around OC, Santa Ana defeated Long Beach Millikan 48-41 and Sunny Hills defeated Canyon 31-12, Tustin upset Capistrano Valley 35-34 in overtime and Portola defeated Woodbridge 35-9 in Aaron Craver’s first game as Warriors coach.
Also, Fountain Valley defeated Valenica 14-6 and Katella defeated Laguna Hills 28-10. Servite defeated Edison 54-14.
