El Dorado’s boys basketball team captured the championship of the Gary Raya Classic, defeating Yorba Linda 53-33 Saturday night at El Dorado.
Jacob Kang and Hudson Novak of El Dorado were named co-MVPs. Kang scored 17 points to lead the way for El Dorado (9-2).
Yorba Linda moved out to a 7-4 lead but El Dorado had an 8-2 run to finish the second quarter and held a 22-16 halftime lead.
“The Hawks extended the lead with a 20-8 third quarter run sparked by Ty Carlson’s 11 points and Hudson Novak’s physical presence on the defensive end,” said El Dorado Coach Ryan Mounce.
“Both teams played extremely hard and Yorba Linda is well coached and was ready to play last night.”
Jason Cassachia led Yorba Linda (5-5) with 10 points.
Upland defeated Bonia 59-51 in the third place game, Cal High topped Schurr 63-59 for fifth place and El Toro defeated Segerstrom 51-39 for seventh place.
