Cypress, Yorba Linda, Pacifica Christian, Beckman and Northwood notch league wins

Cypress High’s boys basketball team extended its league winning streak to 23 games dating back three seasons by defeating Crean Lutheran 82-70 in a battle of unbeaten Empire League teams Tuesday night at Cypress.

Cypress took over undisputed first place with the win.

The game was tied 52-52 after three quarters. But in the fourth quarter, Eddie Spencer of Cypress scored 15 points and hit four 3-pointers. Spencer wound up with 24 points and five 3-pointers.

Cypress (15-3, 3-0) also got strong efforts from Elijah Vaielua, who had 17 points and Christian Chai, who had 11 points. Drew Yezbak led Crean Lutheran (10-8, 2-1) with 32 points., Josh Shin added 14 points.

Cypress will be at Staples Center on Thursday to take on West Torrance.

Yorba Linda 43, El Dorado 41: The Mustangs (11-10, 1-0 won their North Hills League opener behind the play of Omair Memon who had 13 points and Cory Knutson who had eight points.

Jake Duthoy scored 25 points to lead El Dorado (13-8, 0-1).

Pacifica Christian 62, Fairmont Prep 59: The Tritons won the San Joaquin League match-up in a rematch of last year’s CIF finals. Judah Brown scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, Houston Mallette had 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Josh Sims had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Pacifica Christian (15-4 overall).

Beckman 67, Irvine 31: The Patriots moved into undisputed first place in the Pacific Coast League with the victory. Dowon Kim sacored 14 points and David Manea and Jake Morrison had 10 points each for the Patriots (11-10, 3-0).

Irvine (6-14, 0-3) was led by Nicholas DeLuca with 13 points.

Northwood 53, Woodbridge 39: The Timberwolves (6-15, 1-2) were led by Amit Flint with 18 points, Shandon Sharifi with 16 points and Trent Harper with nine points in the PCL game. Steven Mimpaya led Woodbridge (3-16, 1-2) with 13 points.
