Cypress, Tesoro, Tustin and San Juan Hills win at North-South Challenge

CYPRESS 67, MISSION VIEJO 64: The Centurions rallied from a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter to capture a victory in the North-South Challenge at Tesoro.

The event was dedicated to former high school coach Tim O’Brien.

“It was great to honor legendary Coach Tim O’Brien,” said Cypress Coach Derek Mitchell. “He helped me out a lot when I was first started. I could run ideas off him and get constructive feed back that would be beneficial for us.”

Cypress (6-7) was led by Kody Papke, who had 23 points and made four 3-pointers; Jonas Hanson, who had 11 points and 12 rebounds and Devon Washington and Mickey Kadawaki, who had 10 points each.

Papke was named the game MVP.

Mission Viejo (5-8) was led by Trey Tolmaire with 14 points, Josh Hewitt with 11 points and Alexander Frost with 10 points.

TESORO 82, LAGUNA HILLS 39: The Titans (12-2) won at the North-South Challenge in the final game of the day Tuesday. Carson Brown scored 22 points, Kyle Gleason had 13 points, Blake Manning had nine assists and six points and the team’s only senior Isaiah Viajar had a season high 10 points and, “played exceptional defense earning player of the game,” said Tesoro Coach Steve Garrett.

TUSTIN 50, EL TORO 45: The Tillers (12-2) captured a win at the North-South Challenge. Eli Nyeazi led the Tillers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Pablo Magallanes had 10 points and eight rebounds and Wasi Khan 10 points.

SAN JUAN HILLS 66, LAGUNA BEACH 35: The Staillions (13-2) won their eighth in a row with a victory at the North-South Challenge. Player of the game Jake Simon scored 10 points and made some key defensive plays. San Juan Hills was led offensively by Thomas Hattan who scored 20 points and made 6 of 10 3-pointers.

SAN CLEMENTE 69, PORTOLA 43: Asher Gardiner of San Clemente scored 20 points and was named player of the game. Click here for a story and pictures.
