Cypress won its second consecutive tournament title at the Westmont High School Tournament in Santa Barbara over the weekend.
The Centurions went 5-0 beating Tustin in the final. Cypress was led by Ryan Gov and Kingston Birdsong offensively throughout the tournament, according to Coach Derek Mitchell.
“The key to our weekend was defense. I thought we played well together and our defensive rotations really had an impact on teams,” Mitchell said. ““This was a good confidence boost for us. We wanted to come in and compete for the title again.”
Cypress has two more weeks of summer action before wrapping up play at the Tustin Tournament, July 12-13.
“Cypress will be heading into one of the toughest leagues in CiF next year, the top tier of the Crestview Conference,” Mitchell said. “The league will consist of Canyon, Crean Lutheran, Cypress, Foothill, and La Habra.”
