Cypress boys basketball team scheduled to resume play; two more PCL games postponed

Many high school boys and girls basketball games throughout Orange County were postponed last week due to COVID and health and safety protocol.

As of Monday afternoon, one team is looking to return to action and two others will be sidelined on Tuesday.

UPDATES:

—-Cypress boys basketball coach Derek Mitchell said his team should be able to start Empire League play this week after two games had to be postponed due to COVID-protocol within the Cypress program.

“It looks like we will be able to begin play this week, as we are turning the corner on this issue, hopefully,” Mitchell said Monday.

The Centurions are scheduled to play at Pacifica Tuesday and Valencia Friday.

The game with Crean Lutheran will be made up on Thursday, Jan. 13 at Cypress and the contest vs. Tustin will be played on Thursday, Jan. 27 at Cypress, Mitchell added. Both games will start at 6 p.m.

—-Northwood High School boys co-athletic director Brandon Emery said that Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League girls and boys basketball games with University have been postponed.

The games are rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27.

All Northwood girls and boys basketball games last week were postponed as the Pacific Coast League faced major challenges trying to reschedule games.
