It’s a big day of high school baseball in Orange County as teams try to either lock up league championships or try and improve their chances of qualifying for the CIF playoffs.

After today, there is one more week in the regular season.

–Cypress High’s baseball team will try and win a share of the Empire League title when it hosts Kennedy at 3 p.m. The Centurions won Wednesday’s game 5-2. Cypress (23-3) is aiming for its seventh straight league title. Kennedy (20-7, 5-2) is in second place. and having a great season too. Both teams are hoping for strong finishes before the CIF playoffs.

-Beckman’s baseball team, which clinched a share of its eighth league title Tuesday, hosts Northwood at 3:30 p.m. and with a victory would clinch the crown outright. The Patriots (19-4, 11-1) were fairly subdued after Tuesday’s 9-3 win over Northwood. But if they win today, look for a dog-pile after the game. If Northwood wins, the Timberwolves still would have an outside shot at sharing the crown. Northwood also has a big series next week with Irvine which will likely determine second and third place in the Pacific Coast League.

-Orange Coast League leader Estancia visits Santa Ana at 3:30 p.m. Five of the six teams in the league are in the hunt for the CIF playoffs, including Santa Ana which is 7-5. Estancia (13-10, 8-4) won Tuesday’s game over Santa Ana 7-2. But the Saints will undoubtedly be out to even the score in front of their home fans.

-Also today, Woodbridge hosts University in a Pacific Coast League game at 6 p.m. at Ryan Lemmon Stadium. Both teams are 4-8 in league and appear to be out of the CIF playoff chase.

It will be senior night for Woodbridge.

We saved the best for last….. there will be lots of food at the game. A local vendor will be selling tacos beginning at 5:30 p.m. A two taco plate will be sold for $9 with a choice of meat and rice and beans on the side. Fish and shrimp will also be offered. There will also be nachos available for $7 and other entries.

Twenty percent of the sales will go back to the Woodbridge baseball program.
