Crean Lutheran’s girls basketball team went 4-0 over the weekend to capture the championship at the Tri-City Holiday Tournament.
The Saints (14-2) opened with a 69-43 victory over Rio Hondo Prep, which was undefeated coming into the game.
Taylor Feldman scored 27 points and Maya Bland had 10 points to lead the Saints.
Crean Lutheran then defeated Pilibos 49-31. Bland had 14 points and Feldman and Christina Volz scored 10 points each to lead Crean Lutheran.
Crean Lutheran also defeated Escondido 84-28.
Feldman led the way with 35 points. Shannon O’Malley had 14 points and Bland 13 points.
Crean Lutheran then defeated Holy Martyrs, which was 9-0 going into the game, 46-42, to capture the title. Feldman scored 13 points, Emily Reed had 11 points and O’Malley nine points to lead Crean Lutheran.
Feldman was named tournament MVP and O’Malley was selected to the all-tournament team.
“Maya Bland and our supporting cast came ready to play,” said Coach Bianca Ziemann. “Maya Bland, our freshmen guard off the bench, was in double figures three out of four games but more importantly she lead the Saints in steals to transition points or ignited offensive opportunities.
“Coach Rachael and I are super proud of each and every one of our girls. They all played within their own strengths and came together as one cohesive unit to win a tournament against a well respected team, Holy Martyrs.”
Woodbridge 66, Calvary Chapel Christian of Las Vegas 52: The Warriors (9-6) won at the West Coast Jamboree in Concord. Erika Maggard had 29 points and Kathleen Wasserman 19 points to lead the Warriors.
Sage Hill 45, University 42: Sage Hill won the game at the San Diego Classic. Claire Kawata scored 17 points to lead University (5-9). Aryn Press added 10 points. Sage Hill improved its record to 9-4.
