Concordia’s Gordon repeats as PacWest player of the week

Concordia’s Connor Gordon advances the ball in a recent match.

For the second straight time, Concordia University Irvine forward Connor Gordon is the PacWestConference Player of the Week in men’s soccer.

Gordon continued his torrid scoring spree by combining for five more goals and an assist against Fresno Pacific and Biola.

His second goal against Biola gave him a league-leading tally of seven on the young season.  Gordon is now tied for first in the PacWest with 15 points as well.

“My success in scoring goals has just been a testament to how hard the whole team has been working to commit to our game plan,” said Gordon. “It has allowed me to focus on getting myself in good areas on the field when I can be dangerous in front of the goal.”

Gordon also moved into a tie for third in career goals scored at Concordia with 39 and ranks second all-time in assists in program history with 16.

“The continued effort and support from all of my teammates, coaching staff and the entire athletic department gives me the energy and motivation to keep striving to be successful on the field,” added Gordon.

This past Thursday, the redshirt senior scored a hat trick to stun the visiting Sunbirds and secure Concordia’s 3-1 win.

After getting the Eagles on the board right before halftime, Gordon broke a 1-1 tie in the 56th minute on a pretty give-and-go with Julian Font.  CUI would never relinquish the lead and Gordon iced the game late with a breakaway goal to seal the victory.

Gordon followed up that impressive outing with two more goals and an assist on Saturday as CUI’s offense exploded for a 4-1 non-conference win against Biola.

After winning three of their last four matches, the Eagles hit the road to start a six-game road trip this Saturday at Azusa Pacific.
