The game is expected to be a selllout according to Godinez Athletic Director Lisa Treen. Treen said that Segerstrom had already sold out its allotment and Godinez was close to selling all of its tickets.

Godinez is the home team.

Segerstrom has won all but one game in the series that began in 2010 and captured last year’s game 55-0.

Both teams enter with 1-0 records. Segerstrom defeated Bell Gardens 42-0 while Godinez was awarded a forfeit victory against Magnolia because of an ineligible player.

“We are primarily focused on ourselves and correcting our mistakes from last week,” said Godinez Coach Sebastian Hernandez. “We are expecting tough play on both sides of the ball this evening. Segerstrom has an excellent team and a lot of weapons. Coach (Joseph) Tagaloa really does a great job with his young men.”

Among the top players for Godinez are quarterback Daniel Mungia and wide receiver Will Velasquez.

“Neither of them have good stats after last week’s game, but Daniel showed tremendous leadership and Will has big play capabilities,” Hernandez said.

Segerstrom was impressive last week and is ranked No. 1 in the CIF Division 10 rankings this week.

“The rivalry between the two fundamental schools is something both student bodies look forward to,” Tagaloa said. “Both teams always go into this week prepared and ready to go. The result of this game is something that alumni always takes with them.

“Every graduate that I run into outside of Segerstrom always asks about the Godinez game. We have been fortunate to have been on the winning side of the rivalry every year except for the 2013 season This year we look to continue the tradition and compete every snap.”
